Ghost is such a sinister type in Monotype Ubers due to its access to Marshadow, Calyrex-Shadow, and both Lunala's base and dawn wings forms. Marshadow is perfect due to its Fighting typing allowing it to unleash dangerous Close Combats on Dark-types like Hydreigon, Yveltal, and Bisharp. CMimikyu + Marshadow makes the perfect core to pressure Dark teams but be careful, setup sweepers like Galarian Moltres and Choice Scarfers like Yveltal and Weavile can still be threats! Calyrex-Shadow unleashes powerful Astral Barrages and with Choice Scarf, it becomes the fastest sweeper in the tier! Necrozma-Dawn-Wings is mainly used over Lunala to provide Stealth Rocks with Focus Sash while Lunala can provide Defog support. Dragapult is preferred over Giratina because of its high-Speed tier outpacing Pokemon like Eternatus, Mewtwo, and Nagandel. However, Giratina-Origin is still acceptable as a Ground immunity. Aegislash's role in Ubers is less significant due to the high paced metagame but its viability comes from its Steel-typing checking prominent Fairy-types like Xerneas, Magearna, and Zacian. The other core type in Monotype Ubers is quite predictably Steel, which gains a number of absolute monsters featuring the likes of Zacian-C, Necrozma-Dusk-Mane, Magearna, Kartana, Dialga, and Genesect, on top of familiar faces such as Aegislash, Heatran, and Ferrothorn. Heatran and Aegislash retain their places from SS Steel due to critical immunities to Fire and Fighting respectively, while any of Celesteela, Corviknight, or Skarmory in that order can be run for their equally valuable Ground immunity. Magearna features as one of the strongest Pokemon in the tier due to its ability to dent Fairies and Yveltal with its Specs/CM sets or become a powerful sweeper with Shift Gear, as well as frustrate enemy set-up sweeper with the powerful Heart Swap. In a tier of unbelievably hard hitters Kartana stands out as the very strongest before boosts and stat adjustments, and allows for the easy dispatching of powerful threats such as Quagsire, Kyogre, and Groudon (beware, Scarf is only a 2HKO on Groudon!) Necrozma-Dusk-Mane shines as one of top all-around Pokemon in the tier, completely shutting down Xerneas as well as checking most Marshadow variants. Genesect shines as the absolute best revenge killer in the tier, capable of handling any number of threats with its ambidexterity in running either physical or special Scarf sets. Finally, Bisharp also finds new prominence in Ubers due to its devastating ability to force uncomfortable 50/50 situations in both of the critical Psychic and Ghost matchups. With many Steel teams hard-pressed to fit an Earthquake-immunity due to the sheer wealth of options available, Excadrill can also operate as a potent revenge killer, particularly in the mirror match.

A couple of the winning teams from the CAP tour held in Mono room earlier today.

This build combines the Balance Poison core with the new CAP arrival Venomicon, granting Poison access to a powerful physical tank able to switch into Excadrill's Earthquake and scare it out with a strong Body Press/Earth Power coming off 113 Def/SpA. Though Venomicon-Epilogue's stat spread was far more impressive with strong 110/120 physical attacking stats backed by a criminally underutilized ability in Tinted Lens, Venomicon seemed to be of much greater use to Poison due to better fitting the type's needs, namely a more reliable means of beating Excadrill. Dark/Poison CAP pseudo Chromera was also considered but I shelved it during teambuilding due to the difficulty of incorporating a Color Change into Poison's balance core.

This build bolsters Dragon with the addition of superstar support mon Astroloti, whose wealth of utility options (including Spikes, Screens, Taunt, Thunder Wave, Heal Bell, Healing Wish, and Encore) coupled with the formidable ability Regenerator make it perhaps the best utility mon in the tier. The addition of a secondary hazards user frees Garchomp from having to run Stealth Rock, allowing Chomp to take on a role as a frightening physical sweeper with access to moves such as Scale Shot and Swords Dance.

TS is one of the more popular OMs among room regulars. Many NFE mons become straight-up better versions of their fully-evolveds even before factoring in Eviolite.

Particularly exciting mons to use in TS monotype that include things like Duralduon (PUBL), Celibi (RU), Raichu-alola (PUBL), Kingdra (PUBL), Charizard (PU), Noivern (RU), Cradily (untiered), Toxicrock (NU), etcetra

Charizard, for example, has an absurd base 149 spa and a fast 140 base speed; here is the raw power:

I've found the metagame itself relatively easy to get into. Any monotype team that benefits from the TS boosts is going to do reasonably well (Rain with Kingdra, Electric with Raichu, HO poison featuring Toxicrock, etc). It's worth noting that the teams in these replays are not optimized; Indeedee-F is strictly superior to Indeede-M, and Nidoqueen is strictly better than Nidoking, and Raboot is a better Cinderace. Obviously though, the real fun is when you build teams specifically for Tier Shift!

Bumping this LU stuff for interest as I don't see a thread about it?

I think a type-based banlist is a great way to play mono. When monotype was still an OM, bans were often type-bans.
In order to become an "official meta" (~6 years ago), they were abandoned as they were considered "complex bans".
Around that time a cool but short-lived "mono UU" was rolled out, with the same type of banlist as this mono LU.

In the same vibe without typebans, mono NU and PU were fun as well. Even a "regular" UU tour with sametype clause.
I hear that not a lot of people care for mono-OMs or have lists for them, I think that's too bad, very underrated stuff.

I don't think LU is distinct enough from Tier Shift that there'd be enough people power to marshal in support of both.

weezing-galar being usable makes poison seem really appealing. a lot of the natural defensive structure is still there with skuntank being available and tentacruel / nidoqueen being good discount toxapex / nidoking. probably the more interesting additions are life orb toxicroak because i wanted a stronger wincon against normal, and sharp beak crobat because i wanted to be able to beat zygarde without being too passive. the skuntank set is also kind of interesting as a way to lure bronzong / slowking.

seo really wanted to use psychic because he thought it was broken (it probably is) and this is what i came up with at first. double scarf is pretty optimal since gardevoir+indeedee do a good job of taking care of psychic's bad and neutral matchups, but rely a lot on scarf for effectiveness. i think the xatu is pretty good and can threaten a lot of types but seo switched it for a starmie iirc.

ho water is not optimal but it is really fun. the team is pretty self explanatory with just the best sweepers / cleaners i could think of. i did end up getting smashed by normal so the team needs a bit of work (maybe like brick break blastoise? idk) to beat that matchup, but it's probably decent against everything else. i'm not even sure if screens are necessary, so the starmie slot could be something else as well or a more offensive starmie set

this team is for sure broken, registeel and skarmory are already really good in normal monotype so the thought process is that they had to be good in lu as well. they both own normal too which is nice. bronzong is basically heatran and fire isn't that great anyway, it lost a lot of important pokemon. i guess the psychic matchup could be better since there isn't really great ways to beat other bronzong but i think you can outplay tbh

a very different psychic that's a lot more offensive. malamar is pretty crazy in this tier and it basically threatens stuff like ghost, normal, dark on its own. the gardevoir set is kind of troll but it's maybe good against dragon? it's goal was to be a discount lele though. it's probably less consistent then the other psychic but it is more fun

this is the week i got to play lu again and i wanted to abuse zydog, one of the strongest pokemon in the tier. most types don't have switch-ins and band espeed can clutch up a lot of games as well. the rest of the team is basically discount ground from regular monotype: swampert is discount gastrodon, nidoqueen is discount gastrodon, and steelix is discount excadrill. i just realized this team has no ground resist so maybe flygon over golurk is actually the play i just wanted extra tools against psychic. skitter smack for malamar is a little bit genius let's not deny that...

with psychic not having an electric resist outside of celebi / claydol and water being popular, i figured electric had to have some potential. people seemed pretty misguided when building this type, im pretty sure i saw ppl using hot garbage with like pincurchin and stunfisk, just use these mons they are broken. specs magneton in particular is an idea i stole from pu that seemed pretty strong (strong wallbreakers being good in this tier is a pretty common theme). rotom-heat vs rotom-mow is also a pretty interesting discussion, i chose rotom-heat for this team because the better matchup vs steel, bug, and grass seemed nice but rotom-mow definitely has use for ground as well. we did end up losing to psychic but only because our opponent randomly had a scarf metagross so the team was fine.

this tier has a LOT of potential. mono lu is the least "om-y" of the mono oms since you're not actually changing anything about the game, it's just a lower tier. every player goes into the game with the same information unlike more volatile tiers like aaa / stabmons where you have to guess what your opponent is running and it's impossible to prep for everything. it basically has what people like about monothreat as an om: grounded mechanics and a lot of innovation to be had in the teambuilder which makes for interesting and exciting games. (yes, i know not everyone loves monothreat, but you get my point). the tier has a lot of room for development so every type can be tried out (some got gutted more than others but part of the fun is working around what you lack). if mono "oms" have any sort of future in official mono tours this tier should definitely be on the radar.

I don't think LU is distinct enough from Tier Shift that there'd be enough people power to marshal in support of both.

We had a LU slot in the French MPL than ended last week (the one in which felines played the teams described in his post) and it prove to be the slot where creativity and building skills were put into application. With the banlist that we spent quite some time to set, the metagame was pretty balanced and the experience was positive for anyone who committed a bit to teambuilding. Imagine having to build a steel team without the aegi/ferro/heatran/exca/bird core, or a flying team without landorus/thundy, or a poison without 4 regenerator mons.
Having played mono TS in the Mono OM PL some time ago, it's completely different, and in my opinion you end up with a more diverse metagame than SS, though I haven't compiled usage for the French MPL.
I believe it would be a good fit for MWP as it's still the exact same mechanics than SS mono, just with different characters in it and more diversity.
